"We are terribly devastated by
the loss of our football star Ahmet Kalik, who won the heart of our supporters
and our city since the first day he arrived in Konyaspor," his team said
in a statement on Twitter. Ahmet Kalek, a former Turkey international who
played for Galatasaray, died in Ankara on Tuesday morning.
To determine the motive behind the
accident, a search for the causes was initiated.
Calik, who began his career with
local club Genclerbirligi, played for Galatasaray for three years and made more
than 50 games before joining Konyaspor in 2020, where he made 51 appearances.
After rising through the youth
teams, the center-back earned eight senior caps for Turkey between 2015 and
2017.
"It is with great sadness that
we learned that Ahmet Kalik, a football player for Ettifaq Holding Konyaspor,
who also played for our national team, died as a result of a traffic accident.”

Galatasaray and the Turkish national
team paid tribute to Calik on social media.
